The story behind the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points begins not in a Geneva boardroom but on the northeast face of Everest in 2019, where photographer and mountaineer Cory Richards wore a one-off titanium prototype Overseas Dual Time during an attempt on a previously unclimbed route. That prototype captivated the watch community, leading to the limited-edition “Everest” editions of 2021, which sold out almost instantly and now command significant premiums on the secondary market.

For 2026, the Overseas collection’s 30th anniversary, Vacheron Constantin has brought that spirit into regular production. The Cardinal Points arrives as four references, each assigned to a compass direction and a corresponding dial colour: white for the icy North, blue for the Eastern horizon, brown for the plains of the South, and green for the forests of the West.

The 41mm case, bracelet, and clasp are all Grade 5 titanium, making the watch noticeably lighter than its steel predecessor while lending it a purposeful, tool-watch character. The six-sided bezel, inspired by the Maltese cross, is finished in matte anthracite-grey alongside the crown and pusher ring. Water resistance is 150 metres via screw-down crown.

Each dial features a textured centre designed to cut glare, a satin-finished inner minute track, and a lacquered outer track with numerals at five-second intervals. Applied 18k white gold hour markers and blackened central hands are coated with blue Super-LumiNova. The standout detail is the bright orange arrow-tipped GMT hand, paired with an orange day/night indicator at 9 o’clock, giving each reference immediate legibility and a strong visual identity. The date subdial sits at 6 o’clock, adjusted via a pusher at 4 o’clock.

The manufacture Calibre 5110 DT/3 runs at 28,800 vph with approximately 60 hours of power reserve across 234 components, all finished to Geneva Seal standards. Through the sapphire caseback, Geneva-striped bridges, polished bevels, and a 22k gold oscillating weight engraved with a wind-rose are visible.

Each watch ships with three straps: the integrated titanium bracelet, an orange rubber strap with Maltese-cross texture, and a dial-matched rubber strap with woven finish and orange stitching. All swap via Vacheron’s tool-free Easy-fit system, giving one watch three genuinely distinct looks.

The Verdict

The Cardinal Points is a production watch with a genuine story behind it, rooted in purpose rather than marketing. The lineage from Cory Richards’ Everest prototype is traceable in every design decision: the full titanium construction, the anthracite bezel, the unapologetic orange accents.
