Seiko Power Design Project Collection 2 opens with two limited panda chronographs
HHK001 and HHK002 turn the panda dial nickname into the design brief.
Seiko Watch Corporation has launched Seiko Power Design Project Collection 2, a pair of limited edition chronographs, HHK001 and HHK002, in its design experiment line.
The premise is literal: Seiko asks whether “panda style” chronographs actually resemble pandas, then builds the answer into the watches. Designer Kiyotaka Sakai is credited on the project, with details including a bamboo leaf tachymeter reference called “SASAMETER” and a panda tail motif on the case back.
Both use the 8T61 quartz chronograph calibre in a 43.0mm stainless steel case (14.6mm thick) with 3 bar water resistance. HHK001 is limited to 3,000 pieces, while HHK002 is limited to 2,000 pieces.
Seiko’s US collection page lists both references at USD 540 each.
The appeal is less about rarity than Seiko turning a designer’s joke into the whole object.
