Ulysse Nardin Puts Rendao Liu's Miniature Painting on a 40 mm Classico Dial

The Le Locle house's "Make Waves" series gives four Classico dials to contemporary Chinese artist Rendao Liu, and this first one bears a name, not a color.

Ulysse Nardin Classico, "Make Waves" collection piece, dial named "Miao Yin (Resonance)" (part of a four-piece series titled "Four Seas, Four States of Being"), created with contemporary Chinese artist Rendao Liu

Ulysse Nardin has quietly added a Classico to its lineup, one that departs from the mechanical theater the brand is known for. The reference (3202-136LE-9B-LIU/1A) features a dial titled “Miao Yin (Resonance),” part of a four-piece set the brand calls “Four Seas, Four States of Being.”

The collection, “Make Waves,” is how Ulysse Nardin frames it on its own product page: “presenting four limited-edition miniature painting timepieces” made in collaboration with Liu. The brand’s phrasing is worth quoting as-is, since technical details on the dial’s execution are absent. Ulysse Nardin gives the artist and the genre. It does not walk you through the method.

What it does provide is the movement’s specs. The case is 40 mm, and inside is the UN-320: self-winding, 227 parts, 39 jewels, 4 Hz, a 48-hour reserve and a silicon escapement, with hours, minutes, small seconds and a date.

Missing details include case material, thickness, and water resistance. The page omits price and a release date, though a “New” flag, a listed edition size of 25 pieces, and a 2026 footer suggest a launch is close.

Collectors will note the appeal: a named artist on a dress-watch dial from a house better known for Freaks. The frustrating part is that the maker has documented the collaboration less thoroughly than the movement.

ReleasedNot explicitly dated on the UN page itself; the page marks the watch "New" and the site footer reads "© 2026." A third-party article discussing the same collection is dated 11 Aug 2026, consistent with a recent 2026 release.
Specs– Case: Ø 40 mm (stated on UN page). Case material, thickness, and water resistance are NOT stated on the UN page as captured; UN is silent on these here.
