Oris Relaunches the Big Crown Pointer Date in 11 References and Two Sizes

The 1938 design returns in 40 mm and 34 mm, with an in-house Calibre 403 in only two models, and a long list of specs Oris leaves unsaid.

Oris has relaunched the Big Crown Pointer Date. The brand’s announcement calls it a return to the house signature, a design Oris traces to 1938. The 1938 date comes from Oris, so read it as the brand’s telling of its own story, not independently verified history.

Oris does specify the lineup’s shape: 11 references in total. Seven dial colours appear, but only four are named: yellow, green, terracotta, and a diamond-set black reserved for the Big Crown Diamonds sub-line. Two case sizes, 40 mm and 34 mm, with the 34 mm as the more interesting choice. Much of the modern Big Crown story has been told at 40 mm and above. A new H-link bracelet debuts, paired with a clasp Oris calls its own development and seamless.

Collectors will focus on the movement information. Oris says two of the 40 mm models run the in-house Calibre 403, with a five-day power reserve. For the remaining nine references the brand names nothing at all, and the page does not describe how the pointer date is driven on any watch in the collection.

The omissions are worth stating plainly. Oris publishes no individual reference numbers, no case material, no water resistance, no crystal type and no price on this page. On availability the brand offers one phrase: “it’s out now.”
